Field of Ferrières (also in commune of Pontcarré), French Heritage monument to Ferrieres
Old Castle belonging to the descendants of Joseph Fouché, Duke of Otranto, purchased by James de Rothschild in 1829. Demolished and then rebuilt from 1856 to 1863 by the architect-landscape gardener Joseph Paxton in the style of the Italian Renaissance (it is the only realization of Paxton in France). Quadrangular plan confined by square towers around a huge hall providing overhead lighting. Interior design by the painter Eugène Lami until 1890 with other artists, such as Charles Cordier, Gabriel Thomas, Alexandre Schoenewerk, Saint-Marceaux... Alignments of the Park made by Paxton. In 1862, a giant sequoia is planted in the Park during the visit of Napoleon III. In 1959, after the occupation by the Germans during the second world war, the castle is rehabilitated by Guy de Rothschild. In 1975, the estate is given to the Chancellery of the universities of Paris and becomes a place of academic meetings and seminars.
