Castle Becharie (formerly House Barrachaude), French Heritage monument to Uzerche

The door registered in a more important unit has Uzerche is a splendid remainder of the history of the city. The contemporary description most complete that I could find is that given by the work castle of Correze d' Annick Tulasne-Moeneclaey. Here is an extract:

castle of Correze

In the centre town of Uzerche, the Becharie castle occupied a place mangeure in the muree city of Uzerche since its buildings, dominating the exceptional site of the valley of Vezere, flank the door of city.

This defensive unit goes back to XVe century with elements of XVIe and XVIIe century.

The Becharie castle is the shape of a whole of buildings to the apparent hardcores, powerful and severe architecture and the harmonious set of volumes and roofs. One can distinguish in the center. with its frontage of entry in the south, the door of city. In the east of this one, a rectangular building alters in XVIe century; in the west, south in north, the square tower, the house squares and the rectangular building. The door of city has a porch with the vault in gothic arch with the casing installs. Its bays are characteristic of XVe century. The square tower with the south-western angle, very high has a very slim roof in house. The house squares, in the north of the tower leans with the door of city by its north-eastern angle, has its south-eastern angle decorates of a turret in very high watch tower, with the stock mouluree, bays with the moulurations of XVe century and the very slim polygonal roof. This building squares has a roof in house.

The rectangular building, in the north of the house squares, has guard its structures of origin. The rectangular building locates at the east of the door of city has openings of XVIe century. Its roof is particularly required: the tie-beams exceed wall; they are mouldings of two quarter rounds; the coyaux ones which rests above are also mouldings. Inside, one can notice in particular the murals of the end of XVIe century or of the beginning of the XVIIe century which represent, within painted frameworks, the twelve sibyls and the twelve cesars with, above, of the landscapes live.

The frontages of these buildings and the door of city known as carries Barrachaude were classees among the historic buildings by decree of May 8, 1907. The roofs, the wrought iron slope, the low room of the ground floor of the square tower with its murals were classees among the historic buildings by decree of August 11, 1987.

The Becharie castle belongs to the urban whole of Uzerche registered on the inventory of the picturesque Sites by decree of June 22, 1943 (cf Pontier castle has Uzerche).

Company of arts of Correze

Uzerche does not have only its church, but still some other interesting constructions, among which we will quote in first line the Barachaude door, which one would owe rather designer under the name of Becharie door, It is only the remainder of the five doors which, formerly, belonged to the walls of the city.

It dates from the ogival time, just as the small statue of the Virgin, placee in a niche, above the door. This door, which is classee recently among the historic buildings, opened on a disappeared drawbridge, it touches with the old castle of very interesting Cledat has to visit. This door fortifiee is only new old doors of the town of Uzerche which was preserves intact. nowadays, with the top of the passage under vault, a niche sculptee shelters a modern statue of the virgin (ndw: this statue does not seem any more that mentionnee Ci above, to see stereotypes in medallion which shows a statue different from that from stereotypes refers.).
