Former Saint-Baudele Church, currently cellar of a House, French Heritage monument to Beaune

This small egise, rectangular with cutaway on the street of hell, was partially buried and covered with lavas lean-to roof. Its vaulted, full-handlebar irregular, was supported by two Vault arches resting on coarse columns engaged with cubic capitals. A stone cornice ran along the walls at the level of capitals. The old door, open in the North wall, gave access to the Church by a staircase returning from 15 or 16 markets. A new gate was included in the East to serve the upper cave. The 17th century documents mention décor and a Bell Tower on the Chapel (or church) Saint-Baudele. And after Courtépée, this Chapel existed perhaps under another name, since the end of the 4th century. According to other authors, including Gandelot, the underground oratory was built in 720 or 725 to house the relics of saint Baudele, martyred in Nîmes to 295. These relics had been made in Beaune, at the beginning of the 8th century, by saint Romulus and his religious, fleeing the Saracens. Saint-Baudele was the main church of Beaune to the construction of the Collegiate Church of Notre-Dame. Sold as a national asset in 1791, it was transformed in 2 cellars superimposed by an intermediate vault, then partly destroyed during the construction on its location, in 1899, a House which became the cellar.
