Castle, French Heritage monument to La rochepot
The primitive Castle would be built at the end of the 12th century by Alexandre de Bourgogne, son of Hugues III, Duke. It was then the Nolay rock and became la Rochepot in 1403, date of its purchase by Régnier Pot, Chamberlain of Philippe le Hardi. He there undertook works of fortification and expansions, build a tower and a 70 m deep wells. His son Jacques and grandson Philippe Pot continued the work. The fortress, flanked by towers, included a Dungeon, a chapel, a Dovecote of square plan and buildings backed to the wall, she suffered a few minor editorial changes. Trashed and partly demolished during the French Revolution, the castle was sold and served as quarry stone at the beginning of the 19th century before being completely abandoned. There were more than ruined walls and remains of towers when it was bought by the Carnot family in 1893. The son of the president Sadi Carnot immediately decided the restoration and confided to Charles Switzerland, Chief Architect of Historic Monuments, the direction of the work, which lasted until 1926
