Village, French Heritage monument to Bourdeilles

Bourdeilles is located 25 km North-North-West of Périgueux and 9 km from Brantôme, capital of the canton. The village, which the castral set dominates the Valley of the River Dronne, is located in East-Central of the communal territory, not far from that of Valeuil. Saint-Julien-de-Bourdeilles is located to the North, Lisle and Bussac delimiting the southern side. To the West, all of the communal boundary separates the Township of Montagrier. Two main roads along the Dronne to join Brantôme. The grand'rue (D 78) through the present village of stone facades in the 19th century. This ancient route, which delineated the enclosure Castle from the bridge to the place de la halle, leads to Brantôme by left bank, and on the other hand to Lisle. A breakthrough extending Street Southeast of the village was made after the establishment of the Napoleonic land register. The second main road (D 106), located right bank, crosses the suburb to reach Brantôme and Creyssac. Bourdeilles, whose site was favourable to the development of centres of prehistoric life, presents openings Cliff showing the presence of cave habitats. The creation of the castrum de Bourdeilles likely took place at the beginning of the 11th century, website controlling one of the routes from Périgueux in Angoulême. The village is developed outside boasted defences located on a cliff overlooking more than 10 meters left bank Dronne. The aqueduct bridge, original medieval but rebuilt in the 18th century, connects in the North village to suburb Notre-Dame. A hospital was established in the 17th century, supplemented by a chapel. The main buildings constituting the village are the two castles, the parish church (former Priory Church), partially from the Roman era, the medieval Manor occupied the seneschals of the Barony, as well as the bridge. A Hall, who disappeared around 1960, is propped against the southern curtain wall of the castral site. Inside the village there are some houses to the datable remains of the 16th century.
