Chapel of the Penitents, French Heritage monument to Pont st esprit
Chapel built between 1647 and 1657, with a single nave. The interest lies in carved the facade program and the remaining elements of the interior decor. The facade is influenced by taste Italian broadcasts from Avignon, with a gable wall hidden by a successful horizontal masonry of a balustrade, rebuilt in the 19th century, but probably reproducing an original device. The portal consists of an entablature carved modillions, dentils and garlands of fruit, based on two smooth columns with Corinthian capitals. The main element is a significant niche recessed, arched pediment surrounded by scrolls, vases, consoles and putti. The Bell Tower was added around 1840. The Interior consists of gypsery and murals. The latter, in the revolutionary period, constitute a rare testimony of the use of the chapel during the reign of terror.
