History

In the beginning, Bourbach-le-Haut is only one hamlet, attaches to the abbey of Masevaux. A first mention of the village appears in a false diploma manufactures in XIIeme century, allots has Louis the Piles and carrying the dated June 21, 823 one.

From 1940 1944 have, the inhabitants must place German troops in their hearths. Bourbach-le-Haut will lose sixteen men, enlist of force under the German uniform.

After the Second world war, the village knows an important rural migration which is reversed from 1970, stabilizing the population around 280 inhabitants.

Today the common one counts 450 inhabitants.

church Saint-Michel

The church Saint-Michel, built on the initiative of the cure Ignace Stimpfling, replaces an old vault. In 1909, the lightning damages the bell-tower of the sanctuary. The Rinckenbach organ is set up in 1910. The work of restoration, commencee in 1936, is achevee in 1964. The small bell-tower is entirely covered with copper and receives one third bell. An electric clock is installee.

Saint Michel

The fresco representing Saint Michel east executee by Gall, artist-painter of Colmar which east takes as a starting point the traditional imagery of the high Middle Ages. Indeed, this representation made refers in famous Hortus Diliciarium (1175) of Herrade de Landsberg (1175), abbess of the Mount-Saint-Odile. Saint Michel east represents usual manner, embanking the dragon, but also as a final triumphant victor of Malignant at the end of times, and in indicator board of the arrival of Christ.

Monument of the 1st Battalion of shock

This stele pays homage to the memory of the soldiers of the 1st battalion of shock, who, in November 1944, fought in the collar of Hundsruck and have releases the village of Bourbach-le-Haut. They also opened the way towards the valley of the Thur, thus reopening the Joffre road, built by the French soldiers lasting the First World War.
