St. Peter Parish Church, French Heritage monument to Pouligny st pierre
Church built in the second half of the 12th century. Tower-porch, in front of the nave, not foreseen in the initial programme was certainly built in the 1st quarter of the 13th century. The Church consists of a nave of three bays and a choir of two spans, corresponds to the nave of the current church. The construction of the choir, in the extension of the former, could intervene to 1500, to the point where for the Lord of Tessonnières, was the chapel of Sainte-Marguerite, tucked away in the Northern lateral wall of the building. From 1868, the departmental architect Alfred Dauvergne built the two spans of the chapel of the Virgin, East of the Sainte-Marguerite Chapel. The major interest of this rural church lies in its carved and painted decoration. The eight columns engaged of the Romanesque nave have capitals decorated with crossed ribbons or sheets of water from which can emerge human heads. Vault of warheads of the Sainte-Marguerite Chapel, to eight radiant quarters, rests on sculpted and painted bases representatives of human heads, contemporaries of the pictorial decoration realized tempera in the last quarter of the 15th century. An Annunciation and foot figures of Apostles, grouped by two, occupy the eight vaulting. Used colors are yellow ochre, reddish-brown, a darker tone for the fake seals and blue for the background of the figures.
