Vouglans dam hydroelectric, French Heritage monument to Cernon
Industrial site served by special way. Basement floors and ship engine room, vaulted segmental. Office and control room on the square floor on the other side. Hydroelectric power part of the generating set power said together the Vouglans dam. The industry and Force S.A. receives in 1922 permission to create on the Ain a central, known as the Charterhouse of Vaucluse, commissioning in 1928, offers of housing downstream. Property of the S.A. of the driving Forces of the Centre in 1933, it passes to EDF in 1946 which decides the replacement, the flow regulation of the Rhône imposing the construction of extensive withholding water. Vouglans downstream is chosen in 1956, the concession granted in 1960. The dam is designed by the firm Coyne-basher, the new plant by the industrial company, which entrusted the work of civil engineering. Started after the preparatory work at the site in 1962 and 1963 and the digging of a temporary diversion of 225 m long tunnel, excavation last until the end of 1965. The pure arch type, the dam was built from 1965 to 1968: it is composed of 29 plots and 2 abutments, the seal between them is done by copper lamellae. It has 105 m high and reach 425, 25 m in thickness at the base and 6 at the top, and necessitated 550,000 m3 of concrete. It has 2 bottom drains and 4 spillways of flood in a basin of amortization of 4800 m2. Totally independent of the dam, water intake is done by 2 vertical towers of 12 m in diameter connected to Central, demi-souterraine, by galleries of 4, 5 m diameter. Buried cables bring energy, 10 000 v, up to a range of processing 400 m downstream, from where depart the airlines network 220,000 V. The dam development lasts from April 12, 1968 in late December 1969. A reservoir of 600 million m3 is created (the 3rd of France by the volume, the 2nd by the helpful installment) or 425 million m3: 1600 ha, 35 km long and 300 m wide on average, 34 m helpful installment. Production emissions is of 300 million kWh with an installed capacity of 270 000 kW. The Central is remote from the Crown (interregional Centre of the movements of energy), in Lyon. Central to the Charterhouse of Vaucluse: 3 small generating groups for a total capacity of 8000 kW. Groups 1 to 3 from Central of Vouglans: Francis 68 000 kW turbines each, due to the CAFL (Vevey, Switzerland) and put into service in 1968 and 1970, alternators Alsthom of 80 mVa. Group 4: pump-turbine-Francis of the CAFL, 58 000 kW, installed in 1973 and generator-motor Alsthom 72 mVa. 2 160 mVa transformers. 500 people including about 50 frames during construction. 13 people to exploitation. Existence of a Fund of private archives.
