Since the Middle Ages, Salbris is only one modest village, pertaining to the Saint-Sulpice-of-Bourges abbey. The borough was reduced and was limited to the streets radiating around the church. Nowadays with the development of the railroad in the years 1850, the village became an important city in the middle of the Sologne.
