District Rochambeau, French Heritage monument to Vendome
Le Manège Rochambeau de Vendôme is located in downtown military district between the two arms of the Loir, at the limit of the flood. It is part of a whole range of military buildings (stables, housing, etc.) created in the years 1821 to accommodate a regiment of cavalry in full and thus avoid dispersal of troops in various place (barracks of Montoire, places in Vendôme, etc.). The need for a large riding school was mentioned from the outset to allow a better statement of the riders. Many financial constraints, technical (marshland, expansion, successive changes of frame) have postponed the implementation of construction program which not was made in 1856-1857. The architecture of the building may seem trivial. It integrates however very much in the mode of construction of the district and forms with existing buildings, a set of very beautiful look. The building used (stone base, average stone size then block covered with coating) brings a certain animation on these long facades that may initially seem a bit monotonous. Similarly, full-arch Windows that chanted the longitudinal facades of the manege introduce a notion of span found in buildings and stables with the doors surmounted by full-arch or rectangular Windows. The frame of the armoury is an exceptional document. Designed according to the system invented in 1837 by the engineer Camille Polonceau, it presents the association of wood, iron and cast iron elements: wood rafters are supported by of Struts linked by tie rods of iron cast. This type of structure was recommended to cover the armouries of 1st class as stipulated in the circular of September 21, 1854. Very few structures of this type survive today
* Central is the only visible and relative good condition (the roof is to be redone). This unique position reinforces is the need the proprietary interest of the armoury.
