House of Jean Papou to Le crozet
House of the 15th century classified Monument Historique. The façade is Renaissance with medallions style and the reliefs made of stone of Charlieu which stand out from the apparatus of the wall consisting of glazed bricks.
The construction is begun by Pierre Papon and will be completed by his son John, famous judge and lieutenant General of the Bailiwick Forez (1500-1590).
Jean PAPON, the second and most well-known of the three brothers, Lord of Goutelas and Marcou, was nicknamed the great, to distinguish him from his younger brother, Jean name like him. He was born in Crozet in 1505, rose in 1529 at the expense of royal judge, and became soon lieutenant Général to the bailliage of Forez, slumped in Montbrison, Maître des requêtes of Catherine de Médicis and the King's Adviser; but he never was Counsellor to the parlement of Paris, although some writers have said.
Universal biography said of him: « Papou was a - snowman, endowed with a spirit dimly lit, poorly educated, and still less methodical; all his writings are imbued with this character, and deserve little attention. Without claiming to assign is our compatriot more merit that he had actually, we will observe that nearly all of his works have been reprinted, and this public judgment worth another. All ancient writers agree to call it the great judge Papon and of Chesnes (antiques) made him this tribute: Montbrison, the responsibility of the presidialite of Lyon, remarkable even by the abode of Jean Papon that Themis Françoise honors both for his scholarly writings. »
We must admit that in vain we appealed to historical memories, we were able to positively know where was the home of Papon, which stood in 1589 a stormy meeting of the States of the Forez; However, it is believed that it is one that is currently inhabited by the Plaisancon family, in the bottom of the Grand'rue.
