Luneville

This city which depended on the duchy of Lorraine, sovereign court of Nancy, diocese of Toul, was in the past the seat of the Councils of State, finances and the trade, as well as chancellery. Luneville was the chief town of a bailliage Royal, of a control of water and drills, of a hotel-of-city, a general lieutenant of police force of the city, court and continuation; the chief town of the receipts of finances, fields and wood and of a subdelegation; the residence of a brigade of constabulary. Part of the castle was consumee in the fire of January 3, 1720; but it was promptly reparee. A similar accident completely destroyed one of its principal wings at the beginning of February 1755.

The 20 pluviose year 9 (February 9, 1801) it was sign in this city a draft of peace between the emperor and the first Bonaparte Consul, in the name of French people. This draft of peace was negotiates for the emperor by the count de Cobenzel, and Joseph Bonaparte for the French Republic.

Luneville has three ordinary faience manufactures, white and brown; reverberators, ground of white, painted pipe and doree; two cloth factories, of the country, friezes, estamets cross, duffel or bank crosses and not crosses. One made hosiery there, and its liquors have a great reputation. It makes also a trade in grains, wines and garance. There are tanneries and breweries. One finds around Luneville of the clay of good quality, exploitee by the same fossils which has Nancy and St Nicolas

Luneville is with the confluence of Meurthe and of Vezouze, in the plain, has approximately 30 kilometers of Nancy, 90 kilometers of Metz, 55 kilometers of the Saint-Die-of-Vosges, 100 km of Selestat, 110 km of Colmar and 120 km of Strasbourg.
