Railway station, French Heritage monument to Metz

The construction of the station is decided by imperial order of 21 April 1901 and a competition open to German architects in December 1901. The architect Berlin Jürgen Kröger, assisted by architects Jurgensen and Bachmann, won the first prize. Construction ranges from 1904 to 1908. Located on old city ditches, foundations rely on 3,034 piles reinforced concrete. The work is entrusted to the lorraine construction company, of Metz. Two metal halls, removed in the early 1970s, housed fourteen channels adapted to military needs. The romano-Rhenish style that emphasizes the historical Foundation of the imperial power is wanted by the Royal Academy of Berlin and the emperor himself. Wilhelm II would be reached on the design of the clock tower. At its completion, the railway station is the third station of the Empire. After 1918, German connotation scenery are modified or deleted.

La gare de Metz fut édifiée entre 1905 et 1908 en remplacement d'une plus ancienne, lors de l'annexion allemande, par l'architecte berlinois Jürgen Kröger, assisté de ses confrères Peter Jürgensen et Jürgen Bachmann, dans un style néoroman rhénan conformément à la volonté du Kaiser Guillaume II. Elle fut inaugurée le 17 août 1908.

La gare de Metz (Cliché décembre 2012). La tour de l'horloge, qui rappelle le clocher d'une église, s'élance jusqu'à une hauteur de 40 mètres. D'après la presse de l'époque, l'empereur d'Allemagne, Guillaume II, en aurait esquissé le clocheton.
