Parish Church Saint-Vaast, French Heritage monument to La bassee

Church built of reconstituted stone, partly produced with the crushing of the stones of the ruined Church.Latin cross plan: 5 bays of nave, 2 spans per arm of transept, 1 right span of choir and 3-sided bedside. A chapel in each transept arm-oriented. Ambulatory, very narrow, taking day behind the rotating parts of the choir. Tower to the West, overcoming a porch opening by 3 portals, currently covered by a cement polygonal Spire flanked by 4 towers of angles. Central vessel (nef) flanked by flying buttresses. Roofs covered with slates. Chorus: exterior buttresses drilled a passage at the base of the tall Windows. Interior elevation at 3 levels: large arches, faux-triforium, clerestory Windows

* overall length: 60.9 m, development of the transept: 34.50 Mr. fire may 6, 1855, a church in part Romanesque, Gothic and 16th century. In 1858, blessing of the new church built to the plans of the architect Camille Tierce (1822-1860) associated to the beginnings of the construction, the architect Charles Leroy (1816-1879). Destruction in 1914. In August 1922, the municipality holds the project of Auguste Corbeau and René Delannoy, architects DPLG, who retravailleront their project with Léon Debatte, architect of the city. 1 Quote is presented on March 2, 1925. Too high, it is under a review accepted February 26, 1926. The submission of the single company that responded to the call for tender, the company French business, only to operate the Masousky processes required for the implementation of the reconstituted stone, is retained on April 30, 1926. The project is then reduced by a tenth, in all its dimensions, for reasons of economy's foundations. The first stone was laid on 7 November 1926. Blessing of the Church on June 2, 1929. Completion in 1930.Edifice of Gothic style of the 13th century required by the Mayor, Alexandre Crespel, high quality. Furnishings from 1929 to 1932. The arrow, which was damaged during World War II, was rebuilt in 1952-53 with lower dimensions by the architect of La Madeleine Jean Proite. The stained glass Windows in the aisles and stained glass choir, blown during the second war, are replaced by new stained-glass Windows in 1959. The poor quality materials and lack of maintenance lead closed for worship in October 1999. Demolition scheduled for the spring of 2003. Conservation project of the Bell Tower and reconstruction of a church in the same location, whose blessing is envisaged for December 2004.
