Castle of Chessy, French Heritage monument to Chessy
Castle built in 1271-1272, expanded in the second half of the 15th century. The wars of Religion and the laxity of the commendatory abbots are ruining the Castle. In the 19th century, the building was restored in the Gothic Revival style. In 1971, the Vital-Durand decorator rehabilitated buildings and redevelops a garden. The Castle consists of two sets around the Dungeon. The 13th century castle consisted of a quadrangular enclosure on which various buildings relied and flanked by a cylindrical tower. It is the oldest known lyonnais example of fortification thickened and equipped with large slits, marking a new defensive stage. The two bodies of 16th century building stand outside the original walls. Developments of the 19th and 20th centuries, including a neo-Gothic reception with monumental fireplace, woodwork room, the wallpaper, its stained glass and its 15th century gate 'médiévalisée'.The revolution, the influence of the 13th century castle was already in garden. It was built in the 19th century in rock garden which remains including a small artificial cave. In the 1970s, a new garden playing on the plant masses was designed by the Decorator Vital-Durand.
