Menhir said La Pierre Fiche, French Heritage monument to Duneau
The work Guides traditional of the traveller in France and in Belgium of Mr. Richard (publication of 1851) the presence of this building mentions: One finds has 2 kilometers of Connerre, almost at the edge, on the line of the main road of Paris to Mans, a dolmen composes of six stones and a menhir, names Pierre card-indexes in the commune of Duneau, close to this dolmen.
Nowadays, the guide the Sly little minx, dedicates to the country of the Loire proposes an explanation of the presence of the megaliths of this area while advancing that the valley of Huisne, seems to be an axis of communication and human installation as of the Neolithic era (4000 years before Christ). He thus proposes for testimony the presence of megaliths in the canton of Tuffe and quotes the Fiche stone has Duneau (amongst other things). He specifies moreover than apart from this canton, the megalithic presence is rarer.
On the territory of Duneau are seen the two Celtic monuments, most remarkable of the province of Maine (has 2 kilometers of Connerre, on the way which leads of this borough to the glassmaking of Pierre). The first is an enormous dolmen, consistent in six sandstone flagstones of more than 60 hundreds, thickness. Largest (8 bills of quantities length on 4 has 5 bills of quantities of width) is posee flat on the others. With 300 bills of quantities approximately of this dolmen, high a menhir or peulven, borer of a circular opening have its upper part. (Source: General route of Brittany France By Adolphe Joanne).
The Bulletin of the Company of agriculture, sciences and arts of the Sarthe of its dimension mentions in connection with geology (Chalk sandy and sands fine, yellowish, micaceous, containing Catopygus carinatus):
- Very-beautiful development in a wood close to the farm of Paysantiere, close to the road of Balloon has Courcemont, in the commune of Wall-under-Balloon.
- With the entry of the town of Saint-Calais, when one comes from the Ferte-Bernard.

Note webmaster: it would be interesting to know if the mention of 2 menhirs on this commune is an actual fact or an simple error of this work.
