Archaeological excursions in French Vexin
The current castle of Auvers, locates at the west, the top of the slope, was creates in first half of the XVII E century by Zanobi Lioni, Italian financier come to France following Marie de Medicis. The frontage which looks at the valley has been modifiee for this time, but that turned towards the plain preserves a series of stone attic windows, has triangular pediment, of which the provision corresponds well to the period indiquee by the documents.
Zanobi Lioni having had for successor has Auvers another financier, Jean de Leyrit, and the name of this one, died in 1692, being remains with the field during a rather long time, one wanted, nowadays; to identify with the castle of Auvers some '' castle of Lery '' figure in an engraving of the XVIIIe century publiee '' have Paris, at Langlois, street S T Jacques, in the Victoire. '' The situation is, indeed, the same one: extremely similar terraces and staircases has still today those existing precedent the dwelling, but this one differs completely from what we have under the eyes. Instead of a home only one stage has on ground floor, with two final houses of the same height, the whole under slate roofs, engraving shows us a narrower building whose ground floors and stage are crowns of a last low stage or mezzanino, with higher terrace bordered of balustrades and statues.
One is unaware of, actually, has which castle refers this engraving. There was never nothing similar in our common Norman of Lery (the Eure); but there exists also Lery in the department of Dimension-in Or, Leyrits in Gascogne (Lot-et-Garonne) and Champagne Lhery (the Marne), and perhaps is necessary it to seek in one of these localities the residence seigneuriale whose engraving in question presents the image to us. Or perhaps this engraving aims it only one draft amendment of the central part of the castle of Auvers, with suppression of the houses, project which was not carries out.
