Bourg castral Belgentier, French Heritage monument to Belgentier
* altitude: 354 m. area: 1000 m2. On the Summit, today occupied by an antenna installation somewhat upset the field, a butte has been shaped in the substrate, protected on three sides by the stiffness of slopes and to the East by a still conspicuous gap, crossed by a ramp in dry stone. On the southern and western slopes a few fragments of rubble masonry walls squared. A beautiful path calade jagged rises from the village to the orchard of olive trees planted on the Hill, to the northeast of the site. Qualified as a villa in the charters of the 11th century, Belgentier does appear as castrum only in 1232 - 1244. This modest habitat (44 fires of queste in 1315-1316, 13 homes in 1471, 192 houses and 942 inhabitants in 1765), does not seem to have ever been deserted, but moved the Summit to the bottom of the Valley. The chronology of the fall, no doubt earlier at the end of the middle ages, remains to be determined.
